What are some pros and cons to these various bottles that we must have to quench our thirst with? Aluminum is lightweight, durable and retains few if any odors. Although, it can dent and it will transfer the outside environments into the fluid contained within. Glass is well glass. It is breakable but can be formed into almost any shape and can be durable. It doesn’t hold odors nor is it susceptible to bacteria or toxins.
Stainless Steel is extremely durable, doesn’t hold odors, if any and is BPA free. On the other hand, it can be heavy and can’t be used in the microwave. Tritan also called Copolyester is being called the “new polycarbonate”. It is durable, very light, translucent and will shatter only in extreme circumstances. This type of bottle can be recycled, is BPA free and won’t retain odors, if any.
And what about the plastic water bottles? You know, those other ones that are typically much cheaper than the ones described above. These are the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) The HDPE has the “2″ in the recycling triangle and the LDPE has the “4″ in the recycling triangle. HDPE has a cloudy look in the clear plastics and is semi-rigid. The LDPE is semi-opaque and is squeezable. We can’t leave out polypropylene which has the “5″ in the recycle triangle and is very rigid.
